Situation at Coco Island on 30th December

Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Rear Admiral Soe Thein, Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council and Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe and Ministers together with Senior Tatmadaw Officers, officials from Ministry of Health, Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs on Thursday went to Coco Island by air. At the Guest House of Coco Island, they met departmental officials. Commandant of Regional Battalion and Township Chairman explained that there were no substantial reports on damage and casualties caused by earthquake on 26th December. |

Commander-in-Chief (Navy) and party also visited the dam of Coco Island, water tank, supplement dam for drinking water and fulfilled the requirements. They then inspected Coco Island Police Station and paid obeisance to Zinamarazein Pagoda, the replica of Shwedagon Pagoda. Commander-in-Chief (Navy) and party inspected Coco Island Hospital and Coco Basic Education High School where they presented medicine and medical equipment for the hospital and provided teaching aids for the school. Afterwards, member of the Panel of Patrons of Union Solidarity and Development Association Maj-Gen Myint Swe and party met Executive members of Coco Island Union Solidarity and Development Association and urged them for working towards regional development and cooperation in social, education, health and economic sectors. Commander Maj-Gen Myint Swe also presented 120 cement bags and 150,000 kyats to install the satellite. At the meeting with local people, Rear Admiral Soe Thein, Commander Maj-Gen Myint Swe, Ministers Maj-Gen Htay Oo and Maj-Gen Thein Swe delivered speeches. Necessary assistance is going to be provided for Coco Island development and explained about the guidance of Head of State Senior General Than Shwe and 5 rural areas development programmes. They later arrived back in Yangon in the afternoon. |
