Mone Creek Multipurpose Dam

Mone Creek Multipurpose Dam constructed by engineers of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and the Ministry of Electric Power was opened in SayToakTara Township, Magwe Division Wednesday.
Chairman of the State Electric Power Development Project Work Committee, Prime Minister Lt-Gen Soe Win delivered a speech.
He said it is a privilege for him to attend the auspicious opening ceremony of Mone Creek Multipurpose Dam which is mainly important for the interest of not only Magwe Division but also the entire country.
Mone Creek Multipurpose Dam Project is a part of the national power grid project and a valuable project for the region as well as the national interest, he said.
Supply of water to over 100,000 acres of farmland, generating of hydro electric power, prevention of flooding and supporting of regional development will be beneficial to the future generations, he added.
In order to utilize the water flow of Mone Creek, Boo Village Hydel Power Project in upper part of the Mone Creek and KyeeOhnKyeeWa Project in the lower part are being implemented, he continued.
In the near future, Mone as well as KyeeOhnKyeeWa and Boo Projects will generate 120 megawatts of electricity.
Accordingly, various steps of dams and hydroelectric power station could provide sufficient water for cultivation and nearly 200 megawatts of electricity.
Similarly, the precious natural resources of the country are being created to be able to utilize effectively and now 169 dams and 30 hydel power plants have been opened all over the country.
The Government is building irrigation facilities, hydel power plants, roads and bridges which are fundamental needs for development of the nation based on the nation’s own wealth with the coordination of technology and intelligence of Myanma engineers.
Today, we are striving for modernization and development of the State, for equal development of all regions, for reduction of poverty, for strengthening of national solidarity and Union Spirit which are the national objectives based on perseverance, invention and sacrifice, he said.
7 policies the State will be pursuing in the future laid down in order to transform enduring democratic State must be implemented step-by-step with active participation of the national people.
In conclusion, he said, arid zone greening project has been successful as an environmental conservation work due to the cooperative efforts of local people of Magwe Division under the leadership of the Government.
He also urged the public and Government employees to make cooperative efforts with mutual understanding and sincere goodwill.
Next, Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Htay Oo delivered an address.
Afterwards, Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut delivered an address.
Later, Chairman of Magwe Division Peace and Development Council, Col. Phone Maw Shwe made a speech.Then, a local from SayToakTara spoke words of thanks.
At the auspicious time, member of the State Peace and Development Council, Lt-Gen Ye` Myint unveiled the stone inscription of Mone Creek multipurpose dam project.
Next, Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council and Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye` Myint, Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Htay Oo and Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut formally opened the Mone Creek dam.

Later, the Prime Minister and party inspected the main dam of the Mone Creek dam. They also inspected water control tower and spillway.
At the Mone Creek Hydel Power Plant, the Prime Minister opened the turbine generator by pressing the computer button.
Next, Minister Maj-Gen Tin Htut and officials reported on generating of 75 megawatts from 3 turbines.
Then, the Prime Minister presented a fruit basket to Mr. Sun Xigo Wan, Chairman of CITIC Technology Company Limited.
The Prime Minister also inspected generating of electricity.
Mone Creek multipurpose dam project is located on Mone Creek between AukPon Village and ThaRanKaing Village which is 2 miles north of SayToakTara in Minbu District, Magwe Division.
Mone Creek multipurpose dam project has been implemented with the objectives of sufficiency in water supply for monsoon paddy cultivation, to increase cultivable acreage into 70,000 acres for summer paddy as double crops, to prevent flooding at cultivable land and villages from both sides of Mone Creek, for greening the project area and to generate 330 million kilowatt per hour electricity annually.
Mone Creek dam is an zone type earthen dam. The length of the main dam is 4,320 feet. The length of dyke No. 1 is 740 feet and dyke No. 2 is 1,430 feet and the height is 200 feet. It can store 674,400 acre-feet. It can irrigate 108,000 acres.
Mone Creek hydel power plant is 258 feet long, 128 feet wide and 110 feet high. There are 3 turbines at the plant. The capacity of each turbine is 25 megawatt and a total of 75 megawatt can be generated.
After the opening ceremony of Mone Creek Multipurpose Dam Project, the Prime Minister and party heard reports presented by respective Ministries on implementation progress of Boo Village Dam Project, KyeeOhnKyeeWa Dam Project and hydroelectric power capacity which could be produced from these dam projects, future construction works of Irrigation Department together with Hydroelectric Power Department sector-wise.
After hearing the reports, the Prime Minister said as Mone Creek Multipurpose Dam Project has now commissioned into service that it is necessary to implement the tasks harmoniously with the cooperation and coordination of Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and Ministry of Electric Power for further hydro power projects.
He continued to say that steps are to be taken with added momentum to ensure better providing of electricity needed for the development of the State, to designate and cultivate the crops system that can thrive at benefited areas of the dam and to use the irrigated water effectively.
