Myanmar goodwill delegation led by President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Thein Sein together with National Development Minister for Singapore Mr. Khaw Boon Wan inspected development of Toa Payoh housing project in Singapore on 30th January. On arrival at the Housing Development Board Headquarters, the President and party were welcomed by Chief Executive Dr. Cheong Koon Hean and officials. Then, they briefed the President on construction of proper public housings for families with low income in Singapore, ownership of flat for generations for those who bought it by their own income and providing basic needs to create job opportunities and shelter for public by Housing Development Board. After that, the President and party asked what they want to know. Later, the President and party observed the buildings constructed by company from the view point of the Headquarters. Next, they proceeded to a building of Toa Payoh housing development project which is the 40-storey building comprising 160 apartments where they observed formation of rooms, water, and electricity supply and sanitation system. |

President U Thein Sein received officials from Malaysia based Kuok and Wilmer investment Company in State Room of Valley Wing in Shangrila Hotel on 29th of January. At the call, they discussed on cultivation of sugarcane, rubber and oil palm and investment in agriculture based industry in Myanmar. Also attended at the call were Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Wunna Maung Lwin, Union Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation U Myint Hlaing, Myanmar Ambassador to Singapore U Tin Oo Lwin and Chairman of Republic of Union of Myanmar Chambers of Commerce and Industry U Win Aung. |

During the goodwill visit in Singapore, President U Thein Sein received Senior Reporter of the Straits Times Journal Ms. Rupali Karekar at Shangrila Hotel on 30th January. The President explained about the reform process of Myanmar, future expectations and the role of media. Also present on the occasion were Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Wunna Maung Lwin, Union Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation U Myint Hlaing and Union Minister at the President's Office U Thein Nyunt. |

President U Thein Sein and wife Daw Khin Khin Win and party visited the Residence of Myanmar Ambassador to Singapore on 29th January. Ambassador U Tin Oo Lwin reported on social, economic, education and health conditions of Singapore and the investment to be made in Myanmar by Singaporean entrepreneurs. Then, the Ambassador and wife hosted a dinner in honour of the President and party. After that, the Ambassador, the embassy staff and families paid respect to the President and wife according to Myanma traditions. President U Thein Sein later explained about the political progress and stability in Myanmar, better relations with international community including western countries that leads to lessening and relaxing the sanctions, endeavours to achieve eternal peace with national races armed groups, offering of foreign investments and job opportunities for the people. The President continued that it is the duty of every citizen to strive for progress of the nation. All the embassy staff are needed to be in unity and harmony while abiding by the protocols. He urged them to strive for further strengthening of relations with the country where they are assigned duty and try to win the country's cooperation in economic development process of the nation. Then, the President and wife presented gifts to the Ambassador and staff and also provided cash assistance to the scholars. |

After paying a goodwill visit in Singapore, President U Thein Sein and wife Daw Khin Khin Win together with delegation members left for Changi International Airport from Shangrila Hotel to leave for home on the 1st February. They were seen off at the Airport by Singaporean National Development Minister Mr. Khaw Boon Wan and wife, Myanmar Ambassador to Singapore U Tin Oo Lwin and wife, Singaporean Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Robert Chua and wife, Singaporean Chief of Protocol Mr. Lim Cheng Hoe and Myanmar embassy staff. Then, the President and wife and party left for home by special aircraft and arrived back in Nay Pyi Taw in the evening. |

Wife of President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Daw Khin Khin Win attended a luncheon hosted by wife of Singaporean National Development Minister Mrs. Jean Khaw in Shangrila Hotel on the 30th January. Also present at the luncheon together with the President's wife were wives of Minister for Foreign Affairs and Myanmar Ambassador to Singapore as well as wife of Singaporean Ambassador to Myanmar and officials. At the luncheon, wife of the President and wife of Singaporean Minister for National Development extended greetings. After that, the President's wife and party visited under water world where they viewed display of aquatic creature and souvenir shops. Thereafter, they observed Singapore Flyer that was opened on 1st March 2008. The Singapore Flyer is 165 meter high and the diameter of the flyer is 150 meters. Later, they went to National Orchid Garden where they attended a ceremony to name the orchid as "Dendrobium U Thein Sein-Daw Khin Khin Win". On the occasion, the President's wife signed in the distinguished visitors' book. Then, they viewed around the National Orchid Garden where 1,000 species of orchid and 2,000 species of hybrid orchid from various countries are on display. The Nation Orchid Garden, situated on the hill in Botanical Garden of Singapore was opened on 20th October, 1995. After that, the President's wife and party arrived back in Shangrila Hotel. |
