Among the national races armed groups who have ceased fire after holding peace talks with the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the KNU opened its third liaison office in Phaya Thonzu on 15th May. It was attended by Vice-Chairman of Union Peace Implementation Work Committee Union Minister U Aung Min and members: Union Ministers U Than Htay and U Khin Yee, Kayin State Chief Minister U Zaw Min as well as KNU members led by KNU General Saw Mutu Say Phoe, Phado Saw Roger Khin, Phado David Htaw, Brig-Gen Saw Sarmi, Brig- Gen Johnny, Brig-Gen Dah Kyaw and peace mediators. The liaison offices were opened as they played vital for further implementing the peace-making programmes. |

Union Minister for Commerce U Win Myint received British Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Andrew Heyn at the Minister's Office in Nay Pyi Taw on 16th May. At the call, they discussed matters on promoting bilateral cooperation in trade and economic sectors between Myanmar and UK. Similarly, the Union Minister also received Mr.Masaki Takahara and party from JETRO, Headquarters of Japan on separate occasion. They discussed matters on promotion of trade between the two countries, improvement of export products' quality, more exporting of value added items and promotion of private sectors. |

The visiting Chinese delegation led by Politbureau Member of Chinese Communist Party Central Committee and Vice-Chairman of the Chinese National Committee's People's Political Consultative Conference Mr.Wang Gang left for home on 16th May. They were seen off at the Yangon International Airport by Central Executives of Union Solidarity and Development Party U Aung Thein Lin and U Aung Tun, Secretary of Yangon Region USDP U Aye Myint and members, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Li Jun Hua and embassy staffs. |

The government is steadfastly and effectively combating narcotic drugs that pose a threat to the mankind as a national duty. As the Tatmadaw, Myanmar Police Force and local people joined hands in exposing information on narcotic drugs and keeping Tachileik region away from danger of narcotic drugs, the combined team engaged with drug fugitive Sai Naw Kham Group three times, from January to April 2012. Small splinter groups fled Sai Naw Kham Group. From 23rd to 30th April, a 30-member group led by Aik Tun, Law Hsan and Tun Shwe from drug fugitive Sai Naw Kham returned to the legal fold bringing along with 15 assorted arms. At 5:45 pm on 14th May, a 15-member group led by Ya Ei bringing along with seven arms, 378 rounds of ammunition, 12 magazines, four mines and 13 grenades returned to the legal fold at the local military column in NaungTaung Village. A four-member group led by Ah Htu bringing along with five arms, 118 rounds of ammunition, four magazines, four mines and 17 grenades returned to the legal fold at the local military column in LawSanShi Village at 6 pm and a six-member group led by Yaw Han with six arms, 80 rounds of ammunition, eight magazines and two mines at the military camp in Tachileik region at 6:30 pm, totaling 25 members, 18 assorted arms, 576 rounds of ammunition, 24 magazines, 10 mines and 30 grenades. Tatmadaw and departmental officials presented rehabilitation aids to the groups who have already returned to the legal fold at the hall of local station on 15th may. The local military columns are systematically safeguarding the region to be able to prevent infiltration of terrorist insurgents and process of narcotic drug trafficking. |
