Poultry Trade Permitted Under Close Scrutiny Myanmar government, hand-in-hand with international organizations and poultry breeders has successfully managed to cease the outbreak of bird flu in 13 townships of Mandalay and Sagaing Divisions in early March. The disease could be controlled within 34 days in KhinU Township and 20 days in Kyaukse Township and no more H5N1 virus has been found up to now. The temporary ban on selling and transporting of chicken, duck and eggs is lifted. So, the disease-hit townships are now permitted to conduct intra-township trade and inter-region trade is permitted in other States and Divisions. The products were transported under the permission of local authorities and bird flu control committee based on the certification of LBVD and regional laboratories. Public awareness of control measures and instructions against the flu are made through such various kinds of media as TV, radio, dailies, weeklies, flyers and billboards. The LBVD will extend its field public education campaign and other related works in Shwebo and other regions in Sagaing Division with the assistance of Japanese government and in cooperation with UNICEF and the Health Department. |
