We take very much care on AI disease

The government of Myanmar, hand-in-hand with international organizations and poultry breeders has successfully managed to cease the outbreak of bird flu in 13 townships of Mandalay and Sagaing Divisions in early March.

The disease could be controlled within 16 days in Mandalay and Sagaing Divisions and no more H5N1 virus has been found up to now.

The temporary ban on selling and transporting of chicken, duck and eggs is lifted. So, the disease-hit townships are now permitted to conduct intra-township trade and inter-region trade is permitted in other States and Divisions. The products were transported under the permission of local authorities and bird flu control committee based on the certification of Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department and regional laboratories.

Public awareness of control measures and prevention and control activities of Avian Influenza campaign are being made with the cooperation of the public, government and international organizations.

With a view to cease the outbreak of Avian Influenza, Symposium on Avian Influenza disease jointly organized by Myanmar Red Cross Society and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, was held on 1st June at Traders Hotel, Yangon.

Officials of WHO, Ministry of Health, Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department, UNICEF and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies presented reports on findings and prevention and control activities of Avian Influenza.

Those present at the symposium took part in the discussion focusing the prevention against the infectious disease.

Another control activities cooperation between the international organizations is the workshop on debriefing of FAO Avian Influenza follow up mission organized by FAO Myanmar in collaboration with Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department and WHO, which was held at Summit Park View Hotel on 31 May.

At the workshop, local and international consultants presented the papers on Avian Influenza control activities based on their perspectives, findings and comments.
