Myanmar was also listed as one of the countries alleged to have the highest drug abuse. It is just a false allegation which ignores the fact that Myanmar Government has been cooperating very closely with UN agencies and neighbouring countries in the cause for drug eradication which the government takes on as a national cause. Myanmar has consistently been active in the drive for drug eradication; cooperating with countries sharing borders with Myanmar, engaging in sub-regional cooperation on drug abuse control with China, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam and signing a memorandum of understanding with the said countries, and cooperating with countries like India, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Russia, Laos, the Philippines, China, and Thailand on combating drug abuse. |
