Twelve executive members of Nyaungshwe Township National League for Democracy in Shan State (South) U Tin Maung Wai (Chairman), U Than Nyunt (Vice-Chairman), U Ba Oo (Vice-Chairman), U Than Aung Khaing (Secretary), U Tin Ohn (Joint-Secretary), U MaungMaung (Treasurer), U Phyo Than (Social field), U Kyaw Than (leader of youths’ affairs group), U Myint Soe (Township organizer) and members of township level organizing group Daw Kyi San, Daw Hla Shwe and Daw Mya Than resigned from the party by sending their resignation letter to NLD (HQ) and authorities concerned. In the letter dated 6 May, they said they joined Nyaungshwe Township NLD with the aim of doing party politics with sincerity and serving locals’ interest. However, the NLD, ignoring the desire of the people, walked out of the National Convention with the decision of a handful of its leadership. In addition, it has remained on collision course with the government and never directed its members to serve the interest of the local people. That was why, they said, they no longer had faith in the party and they resigned of their own volition as members of NLD and as executives of Nyaungshwe Township NLD. |
