In Myanmar society, intoxicated substances such as poppy, marijuana, intoxicating brew and liquor have never been allowed for human consumption and are assumed to be the stuff that harms human beings.

In the present era, narcotic drugs such as heroin, Phensedyl and stimulant tablets are posing grave dangers to the entire people of the world. Successive Myanmar governments have taken measures to wipe out the dangers of narcotic drugs that can destroy all the potentials for progress of the entire mankind.

Since 1999, Myanmar has been implementing the 15-year plan for elimination of narcotic drugs. In the fight against narcotic drugs through specific plans, the government is mobilizing active participation of local people for eradication of production and abuse of narcotic drugs.

In the process, the government has been exposing and destroying narcotic drugs, and taking punitive actions against drug traffickers and drug addicts. At the same time, it has been giving encouragement to cultivate poppy-substitute crops and raise livestock suitable for respective regions, and do businesses for raising the social life of local people in border areas and organizing

educative talks to get rid of poppy growing.

In implementing the 15-year narcotic drugs elimination plan phase by phase, the first five-year period saw success. The work groups of the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control are carrying on implementation of the plan hand in hand with the people in the second five-year plan.

So, the entire national people are now joining hands with the government in the tasks to stamp out narcotic drugs as a national duty.
