Sixty-eight members of Shwegu Township National League for Democracy in Bhamo District, Kachin State, resigned of their own accord from the party by sending their resignation letters to NLD (HQ) and local authorities concerned. On 7 May, they went to Shwegu Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and handed over their resignations. Present on the occasion were the chairman of the township Sub-commission, law officer, judge, head of Township Immigration and National Registration Department and those who resigned from NLD. At the ceremony U Wai Lwin, member of Saikon Ward NLD Organizing Committee, explained why they had resigned from the party. He said they had lost interest and faith in NLD as it is resorting to various ways to harming the State paying much emphasis on serving its self-interest and grabbing power. All can witness that the government alongside the people are striving day in, day out for the development of the State. He said they joined the party with the aim of doing party politics with sincerity and serving locals’ interest. At first, NLD attended the National Convention, which is the lifeblood of the State. But later, the NLD, ignoring the national interest, walked out of the National Convention as its demands to wield influence on the convention were not met. For the good of a handful of people, NLD is committing subversive acts that can jeopardize the interest of the State and the people in collusion with some foreign countries and underground and aboveground elements. With the government’s adoption of ‘national reconciliation policy’, all parts of the country including Kachin State are now enjoying peace and stability. U Wai Lwin said they all resigned from NLD as they no longer have faith in the party, which is much hungry for power and self-centred. Later, U Soe Myint, member of Shwegu Township Myogon Ward NLD presented resignation letters of the 68 members and office equipment to the chairman of Shwegu Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission. Sixty-seven NLD members including executives of Shwegu Township NLD submitted their resignation letters to Shwegu Township Sub-commision on 4 May and now is the second time for the NLD members in the same township to resign from the party. |
