For an ever-lasting peace

20th May was an auspicious day for Namtpaung village in Lashio Township, Northern Shan State.

On that day, over 5,200 locals warmly welcomed the 325 members Brigade-19 of SSNA (Shan State National Army) led by U Gon Khay.

After considering the well being of the public, U Gon Khay decided to unconditionally exchange arms for peace.

He spoke to the public by explaining the background history of their group.

Local U Sai Kyu also talked about the bitter experiences they suffered. Namtpaung village born Ma nang San Hwan also spoke her feelings.

On the occasion, Brigade 19 of SSNA handed over one 60mm mortar, six RPGs (82), one RPG (625), Three RPGs (5), six M 79 launchers, two spars guns, 21 M 23 machine guns, one AK 47, one M 61, one M 16 A1, six BA 63, 51 M 16, one M 14, 58 M 22, 13 M 21, four carbines, four M 20 Pistols, three 9 mm pistols, two 0.38. Pistols, one revolver, one five-bore gun, one pistol and one home-made gun totaling 190 guns, 115 shells, 7,663 rounds of ammunition, 102 mines, 162 shells and 25 assorted communication devices to officials.

Next, officials presented clothes, gifts and provisions to U Gon Khay and party.

As eternal peace and stability which is the basic requirement for national development can be restored, the ceremony was honorable not only for local nationals but also for the entire people of Myanmar.
