One million acres of paddy and 400,000 acres of rubber are set to be cultivated in Mon State in coming year. As Mon State is endowed with favourable conditions for development, the government has rendered assistance to establish factories and to cultivate cash crops in the state. The government built Thanlwin Bridge (Mawlamyine) that plays an important role in transportation. Locals term it a “Dream Bridge”. Mon State has achieved 4 % in agriculture sector, 18.5 % in fisheries sector, 33.4 % in forestry sector, 34.8 % in mining sector, 39.3 % in industry sector, 21.1 % in power sector and 50.1 % in construction sector by the end of July, 2005-2006 fiscal year. Therefore, 22.1 per cent of the target has been realized. Efforts are being made to extend paddy cultivation in coming rainy season. Mon State sets its target of 1 million acres in paddy and 150,000 acres in double cropping in coming rainy season. In education sector, Mon State ranked second in the country for its higher passing rate in matric exam. |
