Development of Bago
Development of Bago (West) Division

The Government has been striving for all round development in ht States and Divisions including Bago (West) Division.

In livestock breeding and fisheries sector of the Bago (west) Division, over 4-milion farm animals are bred now. The number of fish ponds has increased and there are 2,687 acres of paddy-plus-fish farming and over 183.59 acres of prawn breeding farm.

Tn the health sector, two 200-bed hospitals, seventeen 25-bed hospitals, four 16-bed hospitals and 52 station hospitals and 2545 health staff including 399 doctors. Two nurses training schools have been set up in the division.

There are 578-post primary schools, 119 middle schools and 132 high schools and two universities. One Technological University has been established in Pyay and technological college and computer college have been established each in Pyay and Toungoo.

As regards the communication sector, there are 123 post offices and 41 telegraph offices, and 70 fax machines and eight computer telegraphs. A total of 72 telegraph exchanges and six microwave stations have been established. Moreover, 32 telephone exchanges were set up in rural areas in the division.

In the industrial sector, there are 2,980 private factories and 106 state-owned factories in the division.

In the electricity sector, one hydel power factories has been built and five are under construction. Now, Zaungtu Hydel Power Station produces 20 megawatts. On completion, five stations will produce 230 megawatts. Total electricity consumption reaches 300.799 million units.
