The Myanmar Women's Affairs Federation (MWAF) was founded on 20th December 2003 with an objective of making efforts for improving the life of Myanmar women and as a reliable force of the Government. The Federation is an NGO. Duties were assigned through centralization during the first five years of the Federation which will be beneficial for the Government and the mass of women. The background history of the Myanmar Women's Affairs Federation began at the 5th Women's Conference in Beijing, the People's Republic of China in 1995. The conference laid down National Mechanism/ Machinery in every country for the development of women. According, the Myanmar Government founded " Myanmar National Committee for Women's Affairs" (MNCWA) as the first phase on 3rd July 1996. Commencing on the 1st January 2004, the Myanmar National Committee for Women's Affairs (MNCWA) and its Work Committee continued to exist for the Government to enable to lay down its national policies while the Myanmar Women's Affairs Federation will continue to implement the work of sub-committees under the work committee. The Government founded the Myanmar National Committee for Women's Affairs" (MNCWA) on 3rd July 1996. The 3rd July 1998 was "Myanmar Women's Day" which was a remarkable and a day to be proud of in the history of Myanmar women. |
