Thanlwin Bridge (Mawlamyine), Longest Bridge in Myanmar

Geographical survey was conducted in1998 to build the bridge. The stake driving ceremony took place on 18 March 2000, and construction work completed on 7 December 2004. The bridge is the rail- cum- road one, and it is of reinforced concrete type with steel frames.

The motorway is 28 ft wide and railway is 14 feet wide. The bridge has six-foot-wide walkways on both sides. Its clearance is 328 feet in width and 46 feet in height. The mainframe of the bridge is 7,699 feet. The approach road on Mawlamyine bank is 1,624 feet long and that on Mottama bank 2,252 feet, totaling 11,575 feet (over two miles). The bridge is situated on Yangon-Mawlamyine-Myeik-Kawthoung Road.

It is the 194th of the over 180 feet long bridges opened during the time of the Tatmadaw Government after 1988. Of these, 179 bridges were built by the Ministry of Construction, seven by Directorate of Military Engineers under the Ministry of Defence, seven by the Ministry of Rail Transportation and one by the Ministry of Electric Power.
