Myanmar declared as nation free from bird flu

Myanmar was struck by an outbreak of bird influenza on 8 March 2006 and the disease was put under control on 8 April.

In cooperation with foreign experts, a three-month programme on detection of avian influenza as conducted with the use of modern technology starting from 29 April and it was found that Myanmar as free from the epidemic.

Having controlled the spread of the epidemic y culling chickens and quails in line with he laws of OIE, it was confirmed that no virus was found in the nation during the three-month programme.

The Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department under the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries declared Myanmar as a nation free from bird flu on 4 September by sending facts and evidences to OIE and WHO.
