LBVD issues reminder on bird flu

Sixty six pheasants out of 120 died in a pheasant farm in North Okkalapa Township, Yangon Division on 12 and 13 March. According to the test at the Yangon Division Laboratory, a suspected case of H5 virus was detected. Under the risk prevention programme, the remaining 54 pheasants and 27 domestic fowls and 15 ducks from nearby farms were culled. Sixty quails out of 2,300 died in a quail farm in Mingaladon Township, on 12 and 13 March. According to the LBVD issues reminder on bird flu test at the Yangon Division Laboratory, a suspected case of H5 virus was detected. Under the risk prevention programme, the remaining 2,240 quails were culled. Under the study, there was less bio security in the two farms. Special control measures on restriction of entry of farm workers, transport of animals, wild birds and feedstuff including spraying of disinfectants are to be taken in the farms in Yangon Division. If there is any death of fowls are found, they should not be sold in the markets or should not be transported to other regions. They are to be buried. Old feedstuff bags should not be reused as bird flu can spread. Arrangements are to be made to see that crows, sparrows and pigeons do not enter the farms. Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department announced that breeders and farm workers should not be allowed to go to the fowl depots and shops and outsiders should not be allowed to enter the farm. |
