Now is the time when the government, the Tatmadaw and the people of the Union of Myanmar are working in concert for the emergence of a peaceful, modern, developed and discipline-flourishing democracy.

In implementing plans for a smooth transition from an old system to a new one, it is necessary to make constant efforts in accordance with the nation’s historical background, culture, traditions and customs, a correct policy, practicalities and good intentions. Peace and stability and all-round development that the people have longed for are prevailing all over the nation now. It is necessary for a nation to have a constitution whatever political system it practises. Therefore, to draft a constitution, an absolute necessity for the emergence of a discipline-flourishing democracy, Myanmar is holding the National Convention.

Due to the endeavours made by the National Convention Convening Commission and various committees and delegates from all walks of life, seventy-five per cent of the whole work has been completed. Fifteen chapter headings to be included in the constitution have been laid down by the National Convention.

At the previous session of the Convention, proposals and suggestions on relations between Hluttaws, rights and responsibilities of citizens and the role of the Tatmadaw were discussed and approved. Detailed basic principles regarding these chapters are to be laid down at the end of this year.

Constant and concerted efforts of the delegates to the National Convention, the National Convention Convening Commission and the Work Committee and the Management Committee will surely bring complete success to the National Convention.
