Chairman of Organizing Committee of Hlinethaya Township NLD in Yangon Region U Mya Maung and Treasurer Daw San Myint resigned from the party of own volition on 12 March. The two dispatched a letter of resignation to NLD headquarters and the respective local authorities.

In the letter of resignation they sent to the Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-Commission, the two said that politically, the NLD has been relying too much on two foreign powers; that the party has been hatching plots to harm the nation and the people; that self-seekers receiving international cash awards, with NLD as the base, are trying to gain senior positions in the party; that the NLD leadership is granting positions and privileges to self-seekers while disregarding the members serving as the party base at risk from harming self interest; and that they have no more trust in NLD leadership.

The letter also said that instead of providing support for government sponsored national development endeavours, the NLD is always trying to find fault in the government; that it has never served the interest of its members and the people.

As they have not any trust in and reliance on the NLD leadership, they resigned from the party and their party duties.
