Working in concert for emergence of durable constitution

With the object of establishing a durable democracy, the government is striving, by holding the National Convention, for the emergence of a constitution that will be able to protect the interests of the entire national people.

It is essential for a nation to have a constitution whatever political system it practises. The National Convention is laying down the basic principles to be based in drafting a durable constitution for the emergence of a discipline-flourishing democracy. Basic principles to be based on regarding communications between Hluttaws, rights and responsibilities of citizens and the role of the Tatmadaw in all the 15 chapters of the constitution have been submitted and approved by delegate groups.

The National Convention, which was adjourned during the cultivation season, is going to resume on 10 October at the Nyaunghnapin Camp in Hmawby Township, Yangon Division. Firm foundations for democracy — national consolidation, regional development, economic development and high living standards — are now being laid down.

As the delegates to the National Convention, the National Convention Convening Commission and respective committees are working in concert, the constitution will emerge in a short time.
