Every nation in the world forms a Tatmadaw (the armed forces) to defend and safeguard its interests and sovereignty. In Myanmar there is the Myanma Tatmadaw which came into existence on the basis of patriotism. No forced recruitment is carried out in the Myanma Tatmadaw and all the soldiers have joined it of their own volition. But raw recruits are allowed to join the army only when they meet the prescribed rules and regulations. Myanmar not only promulgated the policy on recruitment in 1947 but also prescribed the Tatmadaw Act in 1959. Moreover, the Committee for Prevention against Recruitment of Minors was formed in 5 January 2004. The representatives of UNDP, UNICEF and the head of ICRC Office in Mandalay were allowed to meet with raw recruits at Mandalay Recruitment Unit on 25 October 2006. They were shown the raw recruitment in Myanmar carried out in accordance with rules and regulations. Internal and external destructive elements are accusing Myanmar of recruiting minors. Therefore, the entire national people are to rebut the slanderous accusations of internal and external destructive elements through unity and Union Spirit. |
