Workshop on bio safety methods for bird flu held

Avian influenza is a disease that can infect from animals to human beings. Since December 2003, it has spread to 56 countries in Asia and Europe. There were 275 cases of bird flu in 12 countries up to 27 February 2007 and 167 persons died.

Myanmar government, hand-in-hand with international organizations and poultry breeders has now managed to cease the outbreak of bird flu in Myanmar.

Jointly organized by Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department under the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries and Food and Agriculture Organization, Instructor Level Workshop on Biosafety Methods for Chicken Farm Breeders was opened at Sedona Hotel on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road, on 29th March.

Resident Representative of FAO Mr Tang Zhengping attended the opening of workshop and made a speech. Officials of LBVD, FAO, UNICEF, JICA, Aus AID were present on the occasion. Dr Larry Allen of FAO and experts of LBVD held discussions and altogether 42 trainees of state and division LBVDs are attending the workshop. The first workshop was held at MiCasa Hotel, here from 22 to 23 March, 2007 and a total of 33 trainees attended the workshop.

The veterinary surgeons have carried out work for disseminating the bio safety methods to chicken farm breeders.
