At the present era, people and those engaged in the transport industry come to depend more on rail transportation due to the rise in oil prices. The Myanma Railways of the Ministry of Rail Transportation now transports passengers, commuters and goods daily with the use of 295 diesel locomotives.

In pursuit of the goal of producing locomotives domestically from the beginning to the end, technicians and experts from respective ministries cooperated and coordinated. As a result, parts of coaches and spare parts of locomotives can now be produced extensively, and the first-ever diesel locomotive with own design has been produced.

The 1200 HP diesel locomotive Insein Locomotive Factory produced with the use of domestically-made parts was launched on 19 April. The diesel locomotives will be installed in passenger trains and wagons to be run on many railroad sections including Yangon-Mandalay, Yangon-Ye, Mandalay-Myitkyina and Yangon-Pyay.

So the State and people take pride in the brilliant performances the engineers and staff have made for extensive production of locomotives and coaches through innovations with the use of locally-made parts.
