Altogether 16 members of Ayadaw Township National League for Democracy of Sagaing Division including U Than Lin of Ngwedwingon village, U Hla Paing, Daw Mar Tin, U Pho Shwe and U Pho Tu on 21 August resigned from the party of their own volition, sending letters of resignation to the NLD Headquarters and the authorities concerned.

In their letters sent to the Sagaing Division Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission, they said that the NLD party did not do their bit in nation-building endeavours but is making attempts to get the nation under foreign subjugation. That was why they resigned from the party of their own volition, they said.
