Altogether 26 members of Mawlamyinegyun Township National League for Democracy of Ayeyawady Region including U Than Tun of Tagundaing Kyonwa Village resigned from the party of their own volition on 1 June 2007, sending letters of resignation to the NLD Headquarters and local authorities concerned.

In their letters of resignation to Mawlamyinegyun Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission, they said that they resigned from the party of their own volition as it is harming the nation-building endeavours of the government instead of serving the interest of the State and the people, the acts of the party have turned out to be a great obstacle to peace and stability and they no longer wished to be a member of the party.
