Eighteen members of Sagaing Township National League for Democracy including U Min Aung, U Khin Maung Gyi, U Mya Maung, U Tun Myint, U Myint Thein, U Kyaw Hsan Oo, U Taik Ya, Daw Khin Mya, U Thaung Tin and U Maung Maung on 5 September resigned from the NLD party of their own accord, sending their resignation letters to NLD Headquarters and authorities concerned.

In the letters sent to Sagaing Division Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission, they said they quit the NLD of their own volition as they no longer wanted to remain as party members.
