Measures taken as to prevention against bird flu

Sagaing and Mandalay divisions were struck by an outbreak of bird flu in February and March 2006 and Yangon Division in February and March 2007. And there was a sign of recurrence of bird flu in July 2007. The Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department detected H5N1 virus at two poultry farms in Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State, on 24-7-2007. All chickens of the two farms were culled under the Early Detection and Containment Programme. In the same way, the LBVD applying an advanced PCR laboratory test detected H5N1 virus at a poultry farm raising about 4,000 broilers in Minyat Ward, Letpadan, Bago Division. All poultry of the farm were culled under the Early Detection and Containment Programme. The LBVD has issued a warning that breeders are to raise separate bio-security of the affected poultry farms, exposure of their domestic chickens to wild birds is to be strictly avoided, people are to come forward with information to the LBVD, Myanmar Livestock Breeding Federation and local authorities in case they find the dead domestic fowls, and breeders are to exercise personal hygiene and wear work site suits. |
