29 armed group members exchange arms for peace

The State Peace and Development Council upholding Our Three Main National Causes has been striving for national reconsolidation and bringing about equitable development across the nation. Realizing the endeavours and goodwill of the government, and their misdeeds that do not serve the national interest at all, the armed groups have been returning to the legal fold individually or in group. In the area of Triangle Region Command, Private Aik Mon of Company-2 of Battalion-204 of SSA (Ywet Sit) Armed Group bringing in with him one M-22, one magazine and five rounds of ammunition, Private Aik Lon bringing in with him M-22, one magazine, ten rounds of ammunition and one mine, Sai Lin with the rank of Cpl of Battalion-679, bringing in with him one pistol, two magazines, 115 rounds of ammunition and one hand grenade, and Private Sai Yet Hlyo; In the area of the Eastern Command, Organizer in Charge Joseph of KNPP armed group, bringing in with him one M-16, one AR-15, two magazines and 16 rounds of ammunition, U Tha Oo with the rank of the Deputy Minister for Home Affairs, Privates Wan Hsaw, Aik Yi, Aik Lin, Sai Aung and Sai Aye of SSA (Ywet Sit) armed group, In Charge of Extortion Money Collector Sale Pinnya, Private Aik Pee of Battalion-9, Privates Sai Tun and Lone Aung of Headquarters; In the area of the Western Command, Tun Shwe Maung with the rank of Cpl of KLP armed group and Private Tun Aye; In the area of the Southern Command, Privates Henry and Saw Zaw Wah of Battalion-5 of Brigade-2 of KNU armed group, bringing in with them one magazine and 20 rounds of ammunition, Privates Saw Aung Min, Saw Tha Soe, Al Thapalay and Nay La Kye (a) Sein Lon Kyaw, Private Saw Hto Bi of Brigade- 3 (HQ) bringing in with them two hand grenades,Private Kyi Thein of Battalion-8 together with a dependent; In the area of the Coastal Region Command, Private Saw Htay of Battalion-10 of Brigade-4 of KNU armed group bringing in with him one hand grenade and Private Chit Win of Battalion-11 of KNU armed group bringing in with him one hand grenade; In the area of South-East Command, Pha Gyi with the rank of WOII and a dependent of Battalion- 2 of Brigade-1 of KNU armed group, bringing in with him one carbine, one magazine, five rounds of ammunition and one walkie-talkie and Private Chi Bu (a) Than Oo and three dependents of Battalion- 2 of Brigade-5 of KNU armed group bringing in with one walkie-talkie exchanged arms for peace during the months of January, February, March and April 2007. Altogether 29 persons who had exchanged arms for peace along with five family members were extended a warm welcome by the respective military camps and officials and provided with necessities. It is learnt that more armed group members are to follow suit. |
