In an effort to modernize the nation, community peace and tranquility and prevalence of law and order is indispensable. Thanks to goodwill of the State and efforts of the national races leaders, armed conflict met its end throughout the nation and local people are now enjoying the fruits of peace. Shan State Nationalities People’s Liberation Organization (SSNPLO) returned to the legal fold in 1994 and joined hands with the government for national development. But they continued to carry arms. As many as 137 members of SSNPLO led by Chairman U Chit Maung, who had returned to the legal fold, unconditionally exchanged arms for peace on 26 July. A ceremony to hand over arms by members of SSNPLO led by Chairman U Chit Maung was held at the sports ground in Banyin Model Village, Hsiseng Township, Shan State (South). And departmental officials, social organizations and local people accorded a rousing welcome to the armed group members. The unconditional exchange of arms for peace by SSNPLO, who had followed the armed struggle line based on racism and suspicion, amounts to making the hearts of people cheerful and peaceful. With the already-achieved peace and development all the national race groups are to make peace and only then, will they be able to serve the national interest fully. |
