1. The commission has announced that the referendum will be held on 10 May 2008 for approval of the draft constitution of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

2. However, due to the cyclonic storm ‘NARGIS’ that hit Myanmar on 2 May 2008, the State Peace and Development Council announced Ayeyawady, Yangon and Bago Divisions and Mon and Kayin States as the affected areas.

3. Now, some townships in the disaster-hit areas have returned to normalcy. The State Peace and Development Council hereby releases Announcement No 5/2008 on 6 May 2008 that the followings townships remain as the affected areas.

(a) Ngaputaw, Labutta, Mawlamyinegyun, Pyapon, Bogale, Kyaiklat and Dedaye in Ayeyawady Division, totalling seven townships.

(b) Tamway, South Okkalapa, Dagon (Seikkan), Dagon Myothit (South), Dagon Myothit (North), Dagon Myothit (East), Dawbon, Pazundaung,

Botahtaung, Mingala Taungnyunt, North Okkalapa, Yankin, Thakayta, Thingangyun, Kamayut, Kyimyindine, Kyauktada, Sangyoung, Seikkan, Dagon, Pabedan, Bahan, Mayangon, Latha, Hline, Lanmadaw, Ahlon, Thanlyin, Kyauktan, Thongwa, Kayan, Twantay, Kungyangon, Kawhmu, Dalla, Seikkyi Khanaungto, Insein, Mingaladon, Shwepyitha and Hlinethaya in angon Division, totalling 40 townships.

4. The referendum due to be held in the townships stated in para (3) are postponed to 24 May 2008.
