Taninthayi Division, Mon State and Kayin State were in flood due to torrential rains that caused swelling of rivers and creeks since 8 August, leaving many acres of paddy fields inundated. Altogether 5,310 acres of monsoon paddy in Dawei, Launglon, Thayetchaung and Yebyu Townships of Taninthayi Division, 22,330 acres of monsoon paddy in Bilin, Kyaikhto and Ye Townships of Mon State and 49,276 acres of monsoon paddy in Hpa-an, Hlaingbwe, Kawkareik and Kyain-seikkyi Townships of Kayin State were under water. As a matter of prevention, the respective agriculture supervisory committees have been in readiness for acquisition of paddy nurseries and paddy strain seeds in the event of flood as well as the already established paddy plantations in high land for the paddy fields that used to be cultivated late due to flooded water. However, it is learnt that there was no damage to paddy fields in those regions as flooded water subsided on 13 August. |
