No death and injury of people and cattle in floods

Due to torrential rains, rivers and creeks overflowed at some areas of Kayin, Mon and Shan (East) States, Sagaing, Bago, Mandalay, Yangon and Ayeyawady Divisions on 12 August. Some households were evacuated to the safe places and some schools were temporarily closed. It was reported that although some farmlands were flooded, there was no death and injury of people and cattle. The water level of Thanlwin River in Hpa-an rose to 910 cm at 6 am on 12 August, but it fell to 905 cm at 8.30 pm. A total of 156 people of 32 households from some low-lying wards were moved to the safe places. Likewise, 254 people of 52 households in Duyinseik Village of Thaton Township were evacuated due to overflow of Donthami Creek, 185 people of 38 households in Kyaikto Township were moved to the safe places due to the overflow of a river. In Mingin Township of Sagaing Division, 57 people of 14 households were evacuated to the safe places because the landslide occurred due to bank erosion of Potonlon Creek. In Bogyikon Village of Madaya Township, 90 people of 17 households were moved to the safe places due to landslides at the bank of Ayeyawady River. Due to high-tide at Letpangon Village of Twantay Township, 105 people of 37 households were evacuated to the safe places. Chinnikon Basic Education Post- Primary School in Ward 22 of Toungoo was inundated and it was temporarily closed from 12 to 14 August. Due to overflow of Athok Creek, 12 BEPSs were temporarily closed in Yekyi Township. Likewise, four BEPSs in four villages in Taikkyi Township were temporarily closed due to torrential rains. Due to heavy rains in Lwelon and Yanglao village-tracts in Kengtung Township, 168 acres of farmlands were inundated. At present, people of households from some areas where the flood receded returned to their original places. Workers of Public Works are repairing ravaged road sections. Local authorities, social organization members and officials are providing necessary assistance for the victims, and arrangements are being made for repair of roads and re-opening of the schools. |
