Due to the storm that occurred on 2 and 3 May, there have been damage, casualties, those who went missing and injuries in some regions of Ayeyawady Division, Yangon Division, Bago Division, Mon State and Kayin State. As soon as the storm had occurred, the National Disaster Preparedness Central Committee started carrying out search and rescue and relief work extensively. At the same time it collected the death toll, the number of injured people and the list of damaged property. However, due to difficulties that occurred after the storm, bad weather and extensive search in every storm-hit region, the lists could be confirmed only on 15 May. According to the latest figures, 77,738 people including 159 service personnel died, 55,917 including 58 service personnel went missing and 19,359 including four service personnel were injured, it is learnt. |
