The National Disaster Preparedness Central Committee today issued the News Release No. 9 dated 30 May 2008.
The full text of the news release is as follows:-

1. An ASEAN-UN International Pledging Conference participated by the UN Agencies, International Organizations and donor countries was held on 25 May 2008 in Yangon to assist the victims in the areas affected by Cyclone Nargis which hit Myanmar on 2 and 3 May 2008 causing extensive loss of lives and property. The Conference decided to establish the Tripartite Core Group (TCG) comprising three representatives each from the Government of the Union of Myanmar, the ASEAN and the United Nations Organization. The TCG will assist the rehabilitation programmes for the victims of Cyclone Nargis and coordinate among the Government of the Union of Myanmar, the ASEAN and the United Nations Organization.

2. The Tripartite Core Group representing Myanmar comprises Deputy Minister U Kyaw Thu, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; U Aung Tun Khaing, Deputy Director-General, Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement; and U Than Aye, Deputy Director-General, Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation.

Deputy Minister U Kyaw Thu has been appointed as Chairman of the Tripartite Core Group (TCG).
