Health of patient suffering from New Influenza A (H1N1) improves
Patient still put under surveillance

11 July 2009—News was released on 9 July 2009 that New Influenza A (H1N1) virus was found in a 20-year-old man who came back from a foreign country and the medical treatment was being provided to him at Weibagi Specialist Hospital.

The patient recovered from the flu at 9 am today, and specialists are giving intensive care to him at the separate room of the hospital.

The Ministry of Health is keeping his four family members in quarantine under surveillance at their home and monitoring them along with all the 104 passengers on board the aeroplane and 122 service personnel at Yangon International Airport. Up to now, nothing unusual has been found.

Now, the Ministry of Health is taking precautionary measures against the virus in order to avert spread of New Influenza A (H1N1) at the arrival and departure areas of the nation. A total of 83,391 flight passengers were screened at the airports, 6392 passengers at the jetties, 1,830,893 people at the border checkpoints totalling 1,920,676 from 28 April to 9 July 2009.

The ministry is keeping those with fever and suspected persons at the hotels or houses. Monitoring of 4,544 people out of 12374 were completed and the remaining 7830 persons are under surveillance.
