L & F Ministry : No outbreak of A/H1N1 in Pigs in Myanmar, promotes bio-security at pig firms

A/H1N1 flu has infected 5728 persons in 33 countries as from 17 April to date and 61 died due to the flu. In Asia Pacific region, 20 got the flu in Australia, China, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and Thailand.

A workshop was held at Sedona Hotel in Yangon on 11 May on prevention of A/H1N1, programs for prevention against outbreak of flu in pig farming, prevention against the outbreak of avian influenza and controlling the avian influenza and future plans, research on veterinary technology and upgrading laboratories.

At the workshop, experts from respective departments and organizations discussed matters related to prevention of the diseases.

The workshop was participated by officials from Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department, University of Veterinary Science, Livestock, Feedstuff and Dairy Enterprise, Myanmar Livestock Breeding Federation, Ministry of Health, Yangon City Development Committee and experts from WHO, USAID, JICA, FAO and World Bank.

Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department (Head Office) and heads of the livestock breeding and veterinary departments from states and divisions held a meeting at LBVD (Head Office) in Insein on 12 May and drew plans for prevention against outbreaks of H5N1 and A/H1N1 and surveillance of influenza A/H1N1 at pig firms and for promoting the bio-security at the firms.

Still, there is no outbreak of A/H1N1 flu in pigs in Myanmar, said the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries.
