12 armed group members exchange arms for peace

NAY PYI TAW, 30 June 2010—Upholding Our Three Main National Causes, the State Peace and Development Council is forging the national reconsolidation while striving for equitable development of all regions of the nation. Realizing the correct works and genuine goodwill of the government, the remnant armed groups are exchanging arms for peace individuals or in groups after realizing their wrong doings.

During the period in January, February and May 2010, captain Kya Nyee, lieutenant Law Wu and WO-I Kya Ou of SSA (Ywet Sit) armed group bringing along with two AK- 47s, one .38 rifle, two magazines, 81 rounds of ammunition, two mines and two fuses and Pvt Ya Pa (a) Kya Mu exchanged arms for peace in the area of Triangle Region Command; platoon commander Doe Do of KNU armed group bringing along with one .32 rifle, five rounds of ammunition and one magazine and Pvt Khon Ta Lun (a) Thurein of SSA (Ywet Sit) armed group, one AK-47 and 26 rounds of ammunition in the region of Eastern Command; 2nd-Lt Ko Kyaw (a) Thein Naing of ABSDF armed group and Sgt Win Aye of Mon (break away) group with one AK-47, 97 rounds of ammunition and two magazines in the area of South-East Command; deputy commanding officer Tun Tun Zaw (a) Zaw Gyi of Parliamentary Democracy Party (PDP) armed group with one .36 rifle, one .22 rifle and 106 rounds of ammunition and Pvt Soe Wai (a) Aung Kyaw Ngwe of ABSDF armed group, with one .9mm pistol, seven rounds of ammunition and one magazine in the area of Coastal Regional Command; and Pvt Kyaw Than (a) U Tha Htwi Aung of ALP armed group in the area of Western Command and Pvt Saw Pho Tha Htoo of KNU armed group in the area of Southern Command.

Officials of the military camps warmly welcomed 12 persons who have exchanged arms for peace and provided necessary assistance to them. It is learnt that there are many persons wishing to exchange arms for peace.
