NAY PYI TAW, 6 Dec 2010Upholding Our Three Main National Causes, the State Peace and Development Council is bending its efforts in earnest to national reconciliation to create a peaceful , modern and developed country. Realizing the goodwill of the government, armed groups exchanged arms for peace to live in the bosom of the people and the Tatmadaw understanding their wrong acts. |

To step forwards the Seven-Step Road Map of the State in accordance with the new state constitution and to join hands with representatives-elect so as to build a democratic nation aspired by the people, 167 members of Mon Peace Defence Group led by Naing Shaung splintered from New Mon State Party exchanged arms for peace in South-East Command area on 26 October, bringing along with them 50 assorted weapons. At present, they are hand in hand with the local people in undertaking peace and stability of the region. Some members of New Mon State Party, no longer believing in the armed struggle line, also joined Mon Peace Defence Group led by Naing Shaung. On 1 December, a total of 101 persons with 22 assorted small arms exchanged arms for peace. |

The Tatmadaw and officials concerned warmly welcomed and provided necessary assistance for 268 persons who exchanged arms for peace. There are more armed groups or members who want to exchange arms for peace. |
