Insurgent groups exchanged arms for peace

Insurgent groups, understanding the attitude of the State and Tatmadaw while the State is moving towards democracy in accord with the constitution and the Tatmadaw, upholding Our Three Main National Causes, is promoting justice, freedom and equality in cooperation with national people, are exchanging arms for peace to live in the bosom of the State, people and the Tatmadaw.

In August, September and October 2011, Corporal Khali (a) Yoke Soe of KIA (Kachin) in Northern Command, Captain Kham Han Pha (a) Hla Aung of SSA (Wunhai) with one 9-mm pistol, 15 ammunitions and one magazine in North-East Command and platoon commander Kunle, private U Sho, private Kyaw Win and private Tha Kyaw of Insurgents (Thurein) group with two AK-47s, one RPG launcher, 60 ammunitions, four magazines, two grenades and two pulled bullets in Eastern Command returned to legal fold.

Private Jyanu of SSA (Ywetsit)Group, and remaining members of LDF Kyahan, Kyahel, and Kuna, bringing along one .45 pistol, one carbine, one M-22, 13 rounds of ammunition and three magazines returned to legal fold in Triangle Region Command.

In South-East Command, members of KNU (Saw Labwe) Group exchanged arms for peace and Sergeant Saw Kaung Layngay, privates Chit Lay and Soe Nay Win, bringing along two M- 16, 735 rounds of ammunition, 12 magazines, private Saw Kawla, bringing along one M-16, 70 rounds of ammunition and two magazines, Corporal Wunna, one .45 pistol, two bullets, and one magazine, Corporal Saw Kyaw Oo and his four family members returned to legal fold.

Lance Corporal Kyaw Min Naing (a) Saw Maung Kyaw of KNU Group, organizer Zaw Wan Nyi, bringing along one one-shot gun, three bullets, and one grenade, and privates Soe Yarzar and Thein Min returned to legal fold in Southern Command.

Officials of related stations warmly welcomed the 20 persons that abandoned arms for peace and four family members and provided necessary assistance. There remain members of insurgent groups wishing to return to legal fold, it was reported.
