As today’s State has gathered development momentum, public residences, buildings, factories and workshops of production industry are also improved. Danger of fire and natural disasters occur across the world at any time. To be able to take preventive measures against the dangers, the Fire Services Department extended its establishment of setup on 14 February 2011. In so doing, fire stations in Regions and States were also upgraded in the nation.

At present, there are 677 fire stations throughout the nation. Of 1981 fire engines, a total of 355 TE vehicles were transformed into the fire engines at the Fire Services Department to save foreign exchange. Members of the Fire Brigade who were conducted training courses by the training section (Yangon) of the Fire Services Department (Head Office), Central Fire Fighting Training School in PyinOoLwin of Mandalay Region, Central Institutes of Civil Service, training schools of the Union Auditor-General’s Office and advanced courses from abroad are ready to help the people.

The dangers of explosive equipment, high-rise apartments and closed rooms are posing dreadful threats to property and life of the people. The research and development section has been formed for applying modern fire extinguishers to put out the fire of chemicals, poisonous gas and dangerous smokes. Moreover, the department manages its members to pursue technologies of Internet, English language and information technology. The GPS system and Vehicle Tracking System have been installed in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon and Mandalay so as to effectively and quickly perform fire fighting and rescue works at the occurrences of natural disasters. Members of the Fire Brigade inspect fire preventive measures and advices to beware of fire in line with the Fire Brigade Law and they give educative talks on danger of fire and exercise fire drills.

The Fire Brigade members are ready to put out fire with full equipment of fuel, fire engine, manpower and water in accord with the work guidelines. A total of 144 Search and Rescue Teams have been organized in Nay Pyi Taw and townships of regions and states with the aim of carrying out rescue works in outbreaks of storms, earthquakes and explosions in the real time. The Myanmar National Search and Rescue Committee has been reconstituted. As such, altogether 50 members of rescue teams from region and state Fire Brigades, totalling 7200 members are ready to discharge their duties. At present, the Myanmar Fire Brigade is taking out its tasks as a reserved force of the State with sacrifice of life for the sake of the State and the people.
