Union Peace-making Work Committee, KNPP Peace- Making Group hold Union level peace talk

10 June 2012— Peace talks between Union Level Peace-making Work Committee and Kayinni National Progressive Party (KNPP) took place at the hall of Loikaw battalion in Kayah State yesterday morning.

On their arrival at Pasawng and Loikaw on 7 June 2012, officials concerned of Kayah State government and locals welcomed a delegation led by Secretary- 1 of KNPP Khu Oo Yal, Secretary-2 U Aung San Myint, and Chief of Staff of KNPP Maj-Gen Bi Htoo, who was going to participate in the peace talks with Union Level Peace-making Work Committee.
On 8 June 2012 , Vice Chairman of Union Level Peace-making Work Committee leader Union Level Peace-making Group Union Minister for Rail Transportation U Aung Min, Union Minister for Energy U Than Htay, Union Minister for Electric Power No.2 U Khin Maung Soe, Kayah State Chief Minister U Khin Maung Oo and Commander of Regional Control Command Brig-Gen Win Myint held peace talks with KNPP at the State Villa.

In that evening, members of both sides and State Level officials and religious leaders and peace negotiators enjoyed the dinner hosted by Kayah State government at the town hall of Loikaw.

On 9 June 2012 morning, the Union level peace talks were attended by Vice Chairman of Union Peace-making Work Committee Union Minister for Rail Transportation U Aung Min, Union Minister for Energy U Than Htay, Union Minister for Electric Power No. 2 U Khin Maung Soe, Kayah State Chief Minister U Khin Maung Oo, Commander of Eastern Command Maj-Gen Soe Htut, Deputy Minister for Border Affairs Maj-Gen Zaw Win, Deputy Attorney- General U Tun Tun Oo, Commander of Regional Control Command Brig-Gen Win Myint, State Minister for Security and Border Affairs Col Tin Soe and Col Kyaw Soe Win of the Commander-in-Chief (Army)’s Office. The attendees of KNPP were Secretary-1 of KNPP Khu Oo Yal, Secretary-2 U Aung San Myint, and Chief of Staff of KNPP Maj-Gen Bi Htoo, peace negotiators, religious leaders, representatives of Pyithu Hluttaw and Amyotha Hluttaw and officials concerned.

At the peace talk, they extended greetings wishing to stop armed conflicts and pledged to work for making peace for development. After they had cordially discussed the 20 points agreed at State level peace talk for continuous discussion, they signed the agreements for eternal peace and exchanged the documents. Then, the talk successfully came to an end. In the evening, they enjoyed the dinner hosted by Kayah State government to mark successful completion of the peace talk. During the dinner, Kayah State Cultural troupes performed traditional dances.

At the dinner, Union Minister U Than Htay and KNPP leader Khu Oo Yal performed cash awards to outstanding students Ma Nay Chi Lin and Ma L Do Phaw, who passed the matriculation exam winning all distinctions, and Union Minister U Khin Maung Soe awarded Maung Hein Kaung San of Border Area and National Races Youth Training School, who passed the exam with flying colours.

They presented flower basket and cash awards to the dance troupes.—
