Live and learn
Back

I am way over 50, and near to the retiring age. But I am still learning, everyday. Some days I learn a few things and some days I learn a lot. Everyday I learn to transform myself to become a better person.

The new things I learn might be at home or at office or from social dealings or from reading. I may learn from my superiors, associates and even from my lowest staff. What is important is that I must take the good things I learnt and wipe out the bad things that I encountered through out the day.

We should be able to slide well to the twists and turns of life. Our roller coaster life-rides are full of highs and lows. The road you take might be bumpy, but check your conscience and take the right turn. We must avoid the bad turns which would end to a disastrous fall.

At the end of the day, I recollect on what I have done right and what I should not have done, for that day. The ‘done rights’ should definitely exceed the ‘shouldn’t dos’. I should try to do only the good things everyday, which is how my parents had raised me. The happiness that you feel, after doing a good deed cannot be matched with any other happiness.

To be able to learn and do the good things, your mindset must be clear and free of conscience. Then you can absorb what is needed to learn and turn yourself and your surroundings to be better. Try it, you will attain a satisfying feeling which will make you deliriously happy as well as to the people around you. Being contend to your present life and making the best of it, is also a feel-good factor.

Going down on the right track means being adaptable. You might not have the best ideas in everything. You might have missed some, therefore you must listen to others, whose ideas might be better and more appropriate. The thing is that you must not be -simply —stubborn, period!

Adapting to new things and concepts needs ‘genuine courage and wisdom’ to look squarely and forge forward-looking attitudes. What is most important is to address on humanitarian grounds. You must learn, and enhance and improve your social management.

If you can ensure and improve people’s livelihood and upgrade basic public services for people to benefit the fruits of life, you can say that you have learnt and achieved well in life and your merits will carry you to a better next life. This is one of the marvels of life. This is the way of life that is worth living. Make your life to a leapfrog development of merit making.

But along the path, it does not mean that everything will be okay and of course there will be challenges. We need to strengthen our capacity reflecting to the challenges. Learning well will be a main factor to achieve what you seek.

As Buddhists, this life we are having is just a short period to the circle of many lives we are destined until we reach Nirvana. There is no reason for not making this life the best of it.

Live and learn, to make a better world —as well as a better you!
