U Aung Thaung-led Union level peace-making group and U Swam Luk Gam-led KIO peace-making group talk about peace at Jingcheng Hotel in Ruili of PRC

19 January 2012 - Leader of the Union level peacemaking group U Aung Thaung and party arrived in Ruili of the People's Republic of China on 18 January to hold peace talks with the KIO representative group.

On 18 and 19 January, leader of the Union level peacemaking group U Aung Thaung, deputy leader U Thein Zaw, members Union Minister U Aung Kyi, Union Minister U Ohn Myint, Union Minister U Win Tun, Kachin State Chief Minister U La John Ngan Hsai, Deputy Minister Maj-Gen Zaw Win, Kachin State Minister for Security and Border Affairs Col Than Aung, Pyithu Hluttaw representative U Tun Tun of Mansi Township, Amyotha Hluttaw representative U Khet Htein Nan, Lt-Col Zaw Naing Oo of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), Command Staff Colonel of North-East Command Col Win Thein, Command Staff Colonel of Northern Command Col Myint Swe and Director- General U Soe Aung of Relief and Resettlement Department had a cordial discussion on realization of peace process in the region with leader of representatives of KIO U Swam Luk Gam and members U La Phai La, U Jee Nawng, U La Jaung Khong Lwam, U N Gan Zaw Khwam, U Khun Nawng, U La Phai Zaw Raw and U Maran Zaw Tawng together with a group of U Sao Aung Myat, U Naw Bu, U Hsin Khaw and U Naw Thwe at Jingcheng Hotel in Ruili of the People's Republic of China. After the discussion, they exchanged gifts and posed for documentary photo.

On 18 January, members of both peace-making groups cordially had a dinner.

After the completion of meeting on 19 January, the Union level peace-making group and the representatives of KIO issued a statement for holding the continuous meeting through political means to realize the eternal peace and to decline military acceleration. The translation of the statement is as follows:-

(1) The Union level peace-making group and the KIO representatives held a meeting in Ruili of the People's Republic of China on 18 and 19 January 2012 with the aim of ensuring stability and eternal peace of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

(2) The Government and KIO will continue the negotiation between them through political means.

(3) They will issue correct information of the meeting to the public.

(4) They will coordinate matters related to military units of both sides in the hot spots, to control military activities and building trusts.
