Taninthayi Division is the southern most part of Myanmar. Dawei- the capital city of Taninthayi Division- known as a seaport. Having a long costal area, Taninthayi Division replete with natural resources, especially marine products such as fish and prawn.

Marine products such as fish and prawn of the Myeik Archipelago have earned a large amount of foreign exchange annually. With secure and smooth road transportation and speedy flow of commodities, fish and prawn production and export have increased creating more job opportunities. Accordingly, private entrepreneurs have built cold storage factories to produce high quality products for export and contribute to development of national economy.

"Our company has four branch marine industries off-shore fishing, fish grinding factory, cold storage factory and prawn breeding camp. In Myeik, we have been operating a cold storage factory, fish grinding factory and offshore fishing. Fish obtained from offshore fishing are exported, small fishes and fingerlings are grinded and produced as feedstuff. The government is providing every assistance in our undertaking, solving our difficulties."
With increased production of marine products, private entrepreneurs are establishing more cold storage factories and promoting export abroad according to their market demands. So, cold storage facilities have been built not only in Myeik but also on the islands of the Myeik Archipelago. As the marine products are meant for export, the factories are controlling qualities of the products to meet international quality standard.

"For export of fish, we have our quality control group and quality control group of the Fishery Department which was opened in Taninthayi. The groups not only check fish but also trays and water. Based on the inspection, we take further measures for quality control."
Now, the Taninthayi Division has more factories and enterprises, which create more job opportunities for local people. Establishment of an economic undertaking in the region is tantamount to promoting socio-economic life and raising living standard of the local populace.
Therefore, the government has been providing every assistance to build modern factories and processing plants all over the country. Now, cold storage and ice factories can be seen in Myeik and in the other islands of the Myeik Archipelago. Accordingly, fisheries and marine enterprises are now copious in Taninthayi Division.
