Situating 3,605 ft above the sea level, Pyin Oo Lwin in Mandalay Division has favourable climatic condition that can promise all kinds of flowers to bloom the whole year round.

It is also a popular hill resort to which many locals and foreigners make a must visit and enjoy the beauty of the town and its environs. The major attraction of Pyin Oo Lwin is Naitonal Kandawgyi Gardens which celebrated a festival to mark its diamond jubilee of establishment. On the occasion, a “Flower Festival” was observed by Ministry of Forestry and Wood Land Co, Ltd.

The very first “Flower Festival” took place in Kandawgyi Gardens at which about 500,000 flowering plants and over 2 million flowers including orchids from home and abroad were beautifully adorned and shown by Myanmar florists.

57 rare exotic flower species such as Tulip, Lily and Begonia as well as 14 indigenous species were amazingly displayed at the festival.

Pyin Oo Lwin was once famous as a garden city. Flowers always bloom in profusion in Pyin Oo Lwin (or) the aptly named as a garden city.

This hilly town is blessed with suitable climate and soil for flowering plants so we see such flowers profusely blooming in all seasons.

Based on this fact, we’ve got an idea to celebrate a flower festival in National Kandawgyi Gardens, like our neighbouring countires.

After aiming to hold the 1st flower festival, preparations have been carried out.

We created a miniature royal city wall to use as the exhibition site. It covers an area of 50 ft x 200 ft. With the aim for the visitors to be able to enjoy the beauty of floral decoration and landscaping collectively in a single place, we started preparation works. We’ve collected flowers both form home and abroad.

For some species…we imported seeds and nurtured them at nursery farms. It took us four months.

Some species cannot be nurtured here. For example, “Tulips”. As they are from the Frigid Zone we have to import saplings and grow here. When the plants are budding, we brought them here to display in a collection.

At the archway of the “Flower Festival”, the map of Myanmar on which states and divisions are portrayed by using different-colours of Chrysanthemum is displayed.

To go well with the moat of Mya Nan San Kyaw Golden Place, scale model of Nan Myint Tower was created with tier-by-tier of colorful Carnations.

As soon as you’ve entered the place, the first thing that you would set your eyes on is the shape of a clock adorned with Begonia and yellow.

Because of the skilful decoration, it seemed to be a real clock. It shows the idealistic and patient creation of florists.

It is also wonderful to see the flower vases with multi-coloured Chrysanthemum, Star flowers, Carnation, Gladiolus and Orchids. The way of mixing colours by the creators is really impressive.

The crowded “Flower Festival” can offer flower lovers ways and means to nurture flowers.

It is also appreciable to see the brahminy duck made with colorful carnation which resembles a real brahminy duck.

Besides, it is interesting to see the 7 tiers of real Begonia flowers without using artificial ones. According to the motto “If you wish to get life-long happiness, grow plants”, nurturing trees really makes one’s mind pleasant.

Enthusiasts can see two leaves in three designs beautified by colourful carnation. In orchids house, visitors can fully enjoy and take the pleasure in floral gardens by viewing colourful orchids of exotic and indigenous species.

Orchid lovers can also select the unique species for collection. Moreover, regional fruits are scrolled into floral motif with Myanma traditional art style. Another interesting item is a fancy bullock cart decorated with colourful flowers and different kinds of fruits.

It is a poetic scene to see artistic decoration on natural rocks and stones with multi-coloured flowers and natural forest product “Doe” vine.

The 1st flower festival of Myanmar beautified with natural rare species was successfully held in Pyin Oo Lwin (or) the city of flower which is famous for its geographical and climatic condition among local and foreign visitors.

By celebrating this festival, the good reputation of Pyin Oo Lwin will increase more and more.
