Myanmar celebrates seasonal festivals all the year round. Tazaungtaing Festival, commonly held in the month of Tazaungmon is one of the festivals which is held in every corner of the country traditionally. In the Southern part of the Shan State, in a town rightly named, Pine Land, visitors can witness the well-known beauty of Myanmar and the light festivities of the Tazaungtaing festival held with the participation of the people of Kalaw. Various national races namely the Danu, Pa-O, Plaung and Taung Yoe reside there together in harmony. Although there is diversity of traditions, the Tazaungtaing festival is solid evidence of the unity and harmony with which the national races take part in donation ceremonies. |

Almost everyone from the community offer some of their hard earned money or from their year-round savings. Offerings are conveyed to the well-known monasteries in Kalaw, Myoma Sarthintaik and Theintaung Sarthintaik. Having two famous monasteries in the town, the offering ceremonies are held for two days; one day for each monastery. This tradition makes Kalaw different from other towns as the offering festival takes two days, during which sounds of drums and dances dominate the whole town, accompanied by traditional songs. The whole town is crowded with festivities, and the sense of happiness. |

The long procession eventually ends their destination at the monasteries and presents their offertories to members of the Sangha, with their own hands. Alms food or Hsoon is also offered to the members of the Sanga on this ceremonial day. It is the 80th anniversary of Kalaw, reflecting good mood of the towns’ community.
