Myanmar Fishermen, traditionally fish by using small fishing traps with boats at the river mouths, and coastal areas.
This type of fishing is called “Yee-Kwin fishing” “open-field fishing” where the tool called “Yee-kwin” is used. It consists of a rectangular fish-trap made of two-crossed bamboo poles wrapped at the corners by a 3ft to 4ft length of thin cloth filter. Where it is dipped in the water and later drained off water, small fish and prawns are trapped and then they are collected by cup. So, this type of fishing is more effective in catching small fish and prawns.
Another type of fishing is to catch spiny eel by using bamboo fish-traps. The thin bamboo-rods are closely raked, swelled 1ft 3inch in the middle and closed at one end by a wood plate and rod. There is a hole and a valve at the closed bottom plate. A lot of sping eels are caught with this type of bamboo fish-traps kept in rows under shallow water.
