Hukaung Tiger Reserve, riched in natural resources and bio-diversities, includes in Northern Forest Complex of Myanmar and situated in Kachin State. It covers an area of 8,418 square miles.

Geographical condition of Hukaung valley is superior to other regions as it is the wet shade area for Chindwin River originate. Geographical condition provide and excellent natural habitat for different bio-diversity. The richness in cultural heritages of local tribe’s biodiversity and geographical condition will counteract eco-tourism.

Now, under the instruction of Forest Department, officials in cooperation with the members of wildlife conservation society, based in Ta Naing Township, are implementing the Nature and Wildlife Conservation tasks in Hukaung Tiger Reserve.

Ta Naing Township, situated in the centre of Hukaung Tiger Reserve, is a peaceful town of Hukaung Valley with progressive development in social economic sector.

Under the arrangement of Forest Department, we, MRTV-3 crew along with the members of Wildlife Conservation Society took a journey on foot, towards Htan Pa Yar Kwin region, southwest of Ta Naing to document the survey on natural grassland.

Htan Pa Yar Kwin region has many cultivable lands. So, some local traditional field huts for temporary habitation during the cultivation time can also be observed there.

The survey on natural grassland grow in yearly-flooded-plains, is one of the Nature and Wildlife Conservation tasks in Hukaung Tiger Reserve.

With the aids of technological apparatus, maps and full provisions, members of the survey team have to carry out their work to be successful through difficulties and hardships after making the camping trips for weeks in the woods.

Forest rangers and WCS staffs of Hukaung Tiger Reserve are systematically carrying out the survey on natural grassland with the vision that the fundamental fact of Nature and Wildlife conservation tasks is to conserve for the perpetual existence of life support systems for human beings.

Natural Grasslands are the natural assistances given to the wildlife and the locals. The natural grasslands in the yearly-flooded-plains are the least in Hukaung area than other region.

In the survey works, conservation tasks will be carried out, with the use of technological skill, based on data collected by calculating the estimate of area, for the interest of widespread and development of its area.

The Natural Grasslands play important role in promoting eco-tourism. Comparing to the other natural forest, it has more opportunities to observe the nature of wildlife inhabited in the Natural Grasslands. On the other hand, it provides the observers a panoramic view of the nature of wildlife.

Annually, when the region is flooded, the Natural Grasslands help slow down the flow of water and reduce inundation in the lower part of the creek. So also, it provides alluvial soil or natural fertilizer for the farmlands because of the sedimentation caused by the water current. It is also a place inhabited by tigers and their preys. As there are various kinds and species of birds, the nearby farmlands have the opportunities to protect against the pest.

Making research and survey on Natural Grasslands, experts and staff of Wildlife Conservation Society, under the arrangement of Forest Department, are carrying out the nature and wildlife conservation tasks according to the objectives for the interest of Hukaung region.
