Beauty of Gall wood displayed

Most people love unique and beautiful handicrafts, created by human imagination. Myanmars, cherish the art of handicraft but are adept in creating that is way you are still finding all sorts of handicrafts relating to Myanmar culture.
To day we would like to present the fine art of carving gall wood. "Gall " means unnatural growth produced on a stem or root of aged hardwood tree. It's called " Kyee Paung " in Myanmar. Gall wood is rare. It is not easily available like other wood, thus you can only use the nature size of the gall-wood you find to carve your gall-wood. The extra-ordinary thing about gall-wood is that, it is hard like rock and has a sweet fragrance. Further more, it has natural ornamented beauty like spiral-patterns, peacock tail-patterns and flower-shaped patterns, which other wood don't possess.

And the colour of gall-wood is more glossier than other wood, which is one of its strong points.
Gall-wood can be ornamented into house-furniture like tables, flowerpots, toy-birds, clock box, teapot, and small cups. Even small pieces of gall-wood are not wasted; they have been carved into key-chains, small box and clips. Thorns, which are natural to gall-wood is unique, too.
Gall of Teak, Gun kino tree ( Pa-Dauk ), Iron wood ( Pyin ga doe ) and Pyin ma are very beautiful with bright reddish brown mired with cream color. Similarly gall of " Ya ma nae " is also attractive with its yellow color. This is the beauty of wave-edged ( Kyun Khaung Nwe ) gall.
