The Beauty of Ingyin (Shorea robusta) Fossils From Chindwin River

In Myanmar, Natural Ingyin fossils can be found abundantly in Sagaing Division, Mandalay Division and Magway Division, especially along the Chindwin riverine route of Sagaing Division. You can see these fossils protruding on the sand-bank of the tributaries and, creeks due to water erosion. It is said that natural Ingyin fossils have been in existence since 26 millions of years ago. Ingyin fossils are formed from various kinds of trees due to changes of the earth.

These fossils are taken out of the sand-bank of Chindwin River when the tide falls. After that, as the first step, they are washed with clean water to make the finished products. It needs to be careful at the step in order to show their beauty and quality, but not to lose their natural condition. After washing the fossils, the uneven places are cut with a stone cutter. Then, a spot is polished step by step with a rubber brush to reveal the inner layer of the fossils.

The roots of trees are also perforated to make compatible with these natural Ingyin fossils. The fossils will gradually chip off if they are not rectified. So, they are to be sprinkled with plastic cover liquid. It needs not to peculiarly refine the fossils so that their natural conditions remain intact. The quality of Ingyin fossils is crunchy and hard. If they are kept naturally, they will expose with oxygen and be ruined. So they will gradually chip off it they are neglected after being taken out of the creeks. Some of these Ingyin fossils are supposed to form from ‘Thanakha’ (or) Limonia acidissima trees. So you can see forms of ‘Thanakha’ barks. Furthermore, you can see the interesting beauties in Ingyin fossils.
